Lares trek Is on the important alternative route to get to Machupicchu Inca city If you didn’t find any chance to book the famous Inca trail or traditional Inca trail, this is the second best option to get to Machupicchu Incan Citadel, which is very combined with mountains some beautiful and natural lagoons, and the humble andean people of the place, who mostly of them are quechua language speakers, as well we find on the way a diversity of climate for some hours the temperature is very cold specially, after midday, and the Andean people feel very comfortable ,because they are at home, who still are descendent of our ancestral culture, which It was called Inca culture who still carry in the soul and in their feelings visit them speak about our ancestor Is to remember about the incas image in one single house lives like the whole family, their life style is completely different than us, for us in a privilege meet with them, in the following days will enjoy some beautiful snow cap mountains, such as Qolqecruz (silver cross) 5700 msnm above sea level Pumahuanca (sacred puma) 5600msnm, and chicon 5700msnm for sure all of this, will be on the trek ,the nice part to see, also some Andean kids showing us their burn skin with cold, supporting the cold and windy, but keeping always a happy smile, now you will have detailed the tour from the beginning to the end.

Extra hikes

  • 45 minutes to get at the sun gate for a gentle up.

  • In the afternoon, you take your bus down for 25 minutes to aguas calientes and catch your train back to Ollantaytambo for an hour and 45 minutes, once you reach or arrive to Ollantaytambo our bus is going back to you to Cusco city in two hours approximately.

Pick up time at 5:30 am Its time you must be ready to be picked from your hotel, but in case your hotel is located like in 10 or 15 minutes away from the city center could be better to meet in any place around the plaza de armas (or main square) you coordinate this with you guide in the briefing the night before, the before the day of your departure, our journey will take from Cusco to Lares around four hours on the way we will enjoy the stunning views of the ilcanota mountain range, and also see a flock of llamas and alpacas which is part of the families of the communities, once we descend from (Willcapunku) which mean´s sacred gate ( 4300msnm) immediately we´ll see the Qolquecruz (silver cross)5700msnm, which is one the beautiful glacier mountain that we can enjoy in our first day of travel from the highest point, will take an hour more as max. to reach to Lares (3300msnm) approximately at 10:00am we´ll be already in the thermal pools of Lares and time to enjoy the hot water, which is used as well to case some rheumatism problems for muscles pain and head aches and specially for cold problems the water is volcanic, as well as here we´ll meet with our partners chef the entrance to the thermal pools is around S/ 10.00, Its optional after we enjoy the thermal pools we have lunch insitu around 13:00pm we start with our hike to reach to Wacawasi (3850msnm) our first campsite the first 2 hours hike is moderate up and the last one hours and a half, us switchback up but in general is a quite soft hike on the way our tour guide will explain us about the potatoes farming, and the Andean culture and also we´ll see some farming fields that grows some Andean products such as quinoa, potatoes, fava beans etc.

Arriving to Wacawasi at 5:00pm approximately we will visit the school to see the Andean kids fava bean and one of the local family’s house to appreciate how is their tradition and also if we want to teach them some English words we can do that too. as well they can teach us some words of their native language which is quechua. At night, we have dinner and finally time to bed.

The wake up is early with a cup of coca tea at 5:00 or 5:30am breakfast and then will continue with our hike toward the highest point which is Ipsayqocha pass ( 4350msnm) the time of our hike from the campsite at the summit will be approximately between 3 and 4 hours, once we reach at the top around 11:00am once we stay on the top we enjoy the majestic view on both side and time too to take the group picture as the best hikers and then we have around one more hour to descend to the lunch spot which is located close by the Ipsayqocha lake, after eat the lunch, we have a short time to take a nap and then we continue going down for 2 and a half more hours max to reach to our second campsite called Patacancha on the trek the second Andean community located at 3850 about sea level over here there is civilization around 5:00pm we must be ready at the campsite, because there will be tea time or popcorn time and later dinner and time to rest for the next day.

At 5:30am we wake up with a morning coca tea and then breakfast, we leave around 8:00am to get to Ollantaytambo, specially the fourth day is very flexible because from Patacancha to reach to Ollantaytambo will take just four hours going down I mean we left back the hard part. We will arrive to Ollantaytambo at 12:00pm where we hour lunch and then we catch our train to get to Machupicchu we have accommodation in a hostal at the briefing and dinner.

We wake up at 4:00am to make the line at the bus station to reserve and go up early to Machupicchu, specially to be for the sun rise between 6:00 and 6:30 and then will have the guide service for 2 and a half hours and then you will have plenty of time to explore by yourself the rest of the time.
